South Auckland Poets Collective
The South Auckland Poets Collective started in 2008 through a Youthline initiative to get young people interested in poetry. Currently there are 10 members. Since starting they have performed at Te Papa Museum, many galleries, Splore Festival and Fringe Festival (both Dunedin and Auckland). The group is made up of youth workers, actors, students and people who just love literature.
Zane Scarborough, a member of SAPC, is the Manager of Attitude, the youth division of The Parenting Place. Since 2006 Zane has been travelling the country presenting the Attitude programme in New Zealand high schools. He has delivered over 1000 presentations to more than 100,000 teenagers throughout the North Island. The Attitude programme includes topics such as drugs, alcohol, sex, depression, youth suicide, and the safe use of social media and technology. This year Zane won the first Trans-Tasman Poetry Slam held in Melbourne and won first place in Poetry Idol at the Readers and Writers Festival.
