The banana incident

Some of my most rewarding moments as a mother have been when my children surprise me in a way I have always tried to surprise them. It’s proof they actually get it! A perfect example is the day I opened by bag at work to get out my lunch and discovered my son had written, “I love you, Mum” on my banana.

Although my children have now reached the age when I have been banned from decorating bananas, I still like to sneak little notes in their lunchbox from time to time. I’ll be making a special effort in the first few weeks of school – a little bit of home is very reassuring in a concentrated phase of new beginnings.
