Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

It is not unusual for grandparents to be involved in the upbringing of their grandchildren. In some parts of the world it is considered normal for grandparents to take a huge role in the raising of children.  In our culture, though, there are a large number of children in the full-time care of their grandparents because of serious issues with the children’s parents.

In this six session Toolbox course you will hear directly from grandparents who have ‘been there’, as well as other friendly faces and experts who lend their support and offer advice.

The course consists of three DVDs and a comprehensive manual which you can work through at home on your own or with some friends. If you prefer to be part of a group, check on the website to get details of any Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Toolbox courses running in your area. If you are a member of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust a copy of this resource will be sent directly to your home. You can also access a copy by contacting us at The Parenting Place. This exciting resource is being offered to all grandparents raising grandchildren free of charge.

As well as being a ‘refresher course’ for grandparents returning to front-line parenting duties after many years, the course also gives insight into how children’s earlier experiences might be affecting them now and in the future. Sadly, many children requiring new caregivers have already experienced drug abuse, family violence and neglect.  These things can have a profound impact on a child’s heart and mind, but this course offers skills and strategies that will help you cope, and will also help your grandchildren thrive!
