Our story

Our organisation began in 1993 with Ian and Mary Grant's dream to equip and encourage New Zealand parents, delivering their message with an inspiring and entertaining voice.
Nearly 20 years later the dream has gone from strength to strength, with CEO Bruce Pilbrow heading an organisation that reaches hundreds of thousands of families each year.
The name change from Parents Inc. to The Parenting Place reflects our increasing involvement with the community, and our status as the go-to place for all things parenting.
In all that we do, we passionately believe that Family is Everything. We serve families through a wide range of programmes – Toolbox parenting groups, Hot Tips for communities, Hot Tips for businesses, Fathers' Breakfasts, The Parenting Show with Pio, Pasifika Families, Parenting magazine, Family Coaches, our centre in Auckland, Attitude Programmes for Schools, and the NYLD events for emerging leaders. The Parenting Place is here for families, whether they have babies, teenagers, or kids aged somewhere between.
Ian and Mary Grant have both retired from active involvement in The Parenting Place leaving a distinctive stamp of style on the whole organisation. When you read our mission statement, it encapsulates what Ian and Mary created in The Parenting Place: an organisation motivated by Christian love that seeks to serve parents and children, and it does so with flair, humour and quality. This organisation is just a part of the Grants’ legacy – the real fruit of their life-time of service is the changed lives of thousands of people throughout New Zealand.
