Encouragement for Dads
The Fathers' Breakfasts, will be held in Auckland and Christchurch, which draws thousands of men from all walks of life. Top speakers from New Zealand and overseas present their personal stories of fatherhood, sharing the things that have worked and the things that haven't.
In the past years we have had speakers such as Stephen Tindall, Ralph Norris, Sir Ray Avery, Sean Fitzpatrick, Wayne 'Buck' Shelford, Graham Henry, Robbie Deans, Nick Farr-Jones, Neil Finn and John Campbell. All of them are quick to admit their failings, but they are also keen to pass on what they've found that works. Dads are getting it: fathers can make a huge, positive difference! Fathers want to be active and involved in their kids' lives.
The practical nature of the speakers' advice, combined with the atmosphere generated by hundreds of fathers in a room, makes this a powerful event.
Fathers' Breakfasts 2012
Two successful Fathers' Breakfasts were held this year in Wellington and Auckland. Here is just a taste of the feedback received.
I just wanted to send a message of huge thanks for the superb event you organised yesterday at the Skycity Convention Centre. It was a very professional and heartfelt event.
Our "University of Auckland" table #3 was close to the action and I felt very involved with the speakers. The messages for us fathers were all from the heart, and good reminders of what for all of us should be basic common sense. However, sometimes we do stray from our true selves in a busy and sometimes dissonant world. Last night I went home and gave my 18 year old and 13 year old sons the biggest hugs and from-the-soul words of love for who they are that I've ever given them.Thanks to you and your organisation for the inspiration and reminder.
